UNESCO J.U. Smit Gemaal in Kinderdijk

During the past period Height Safety Support was assigned by Bosman Watermanagement & Rijkswaterstaat to install a number of safety provisions at a piece of UNESCO World Heritage in Kinderdijk. 

For nearly a thousand years, the Dutch have been clever in dealing with the water that surrounds them. The sustainable blend of nature and technology used to keep Kinderdijk dry is so uniquely valuable that the area and its windmills were granted UNESCO World Heritage status. To ensure that our feet stay dry in the future, Height Safety Support installed facilities so that the lifting motors of the three jacks could be safely maintained. Securing points, handholds and platforms were installed. 

What makes this so special?

The engines are only accessible through a hatch above the auger gutters. The rotating blades in the deep auger trenches, the moving motor shafts and the water combine to form a limiting factor for a permanently safe situation. Creativity in combination with a professional approach resulted in a flawless workable solution for the future. This way we can continue to visit and experience this unique piece of history in the years to come.
